Kobo has just announced its latest ebook reader, dubbed the eReader Touch Edition, that’s touchscreen enabled. before the Touch Edition, touchscreen e-ink never really takeoff due to its lack of clarity and low contrast. however, Kobo managed to overcome this by employing infrared sensors to sense where your fingers are.

the result? you get a brilliant high contrast 6-inch display with the ability to swipe-to-turn the pages, page scrubbing, long press to highlight words or paragraphs and it even has an onscreen keyboard. for PDF, double-tapping activates the zooming function. the Touch Edition boost a battery that is good for one month usage per charge and features a SD slot for additional storage (expandable up to 32GB), if the onboard 2GB is not enough for you.

the Kobo eReader Touch Edition is slated to be available this June at a retail price of $129.99 however, it is up for pre-order at Borders USA and Chapters Indigo Coles in Canada.
