We did not tell you about the Kodak Charmera Keychain Digital Camera when it charmed the world last year. Thankfully, we have another chance to do so because this adorable camera now has a new series. Folks, meet the Kodak Charmera Keychain Digital Camera – Millennium Edition.
Launched on June 16, it is the second major release in the Charmera lineup, bringing Y2K styling to Kodak‘s cult-favorite keychain camera. That’s right. This second series trades the original 1980s Kodak Fling-inspired look for a decidedly Y2K aesthetic. It comes in six metallic and pixel-art-themed designs, plus a rare silver secret edition, and yes, it is still sold in blind boxes. All told, there are seven retro styles. Like the first series, you can procure the entire box to ensure you get all the designs if you are so inclined.
Anyhoo, new to the Millennium Edition are additional pixel filters and themed frames inspired by early-2000s technology and video games. Under the hood, it retains the same intentionally lo-fi hardware. This includes a 1.6 MP 1/4-inch CMOS sensor paired with a 35 mm equivalent f/2.4 lens that allows it to capture 1,440 x 1,080 stills and record up to 1080p AVI video at 30 fps.
The camera boasts a built-in rechargeable battery of a modest 200 mAh capacity, a USB-C port for charging and file transfer, and support for microSD cards up to 128 GB. As before, it offers customized retro-futurism frames, color-rich pixelated filters, and date stamps in photo mode to distract you from the fact that its image quality is intentionally lo-fi.
Outside of its retro imaging duties, it serves as a charm. You can use it as a keychain, hook it to your bag, or wherever you fancy. In a way, it is a fashion accessory that just happens to capture images.
