When you’re visiting a popular tourist spot, you’ll probably end up with a pile of souvenirs—alongside the endless photos—as keepsakes of your trip. But that’s mostly just a visual reminder—or maybe audio if you recorded a video—of a beautiful place you once visited. You can’t exactly capture the scent of the location… unless that is, you’re at Lake Como in Lombardy, Northern Italy.
ItalyComunica has taken souvenirs to the next level with, wait for it: Lake Como Air. Yes, actual canned air from Lake Como. I promise I’m not making this up.
This may bring to mind that Chinese entrepreneur who sold cans of fresh air to highlight pollution in China. But with Lake Como Air, there’s no hidden social message—just a pure reminder of the fresh, breezy atmosphere of this stunning spot nestled in the Como and Lecco provinces. Each can boast 400 ml (or 13.5 fl. oz.) of “100% authentic air,” collected right on location at Lake Como.
And unlike some souvenirs, Lake Como Air is strictly a local exclusive—you won’t find it online. It’s only available in local shops, because, well, they want to make sure you actually visit Lake Como before you get your can of air. As their website puts it, “Only those who visit Lake Como will want to buy our souvenirs. Memories aren’t bought; they’re lived.”
There aren’t exactly any instructions on how to “consume” this canned air, but the company assures buyers that once opened, the can still has a use. It can be repurposed as a pen holder, a plant pot, or whatever you dream up. And the price? A breezy €9.90 (around 11 USD). Not only are they selling air, but they also have some super cool Lake Como posters on lakecomoposter.com, in case you want a bit more of a visual reminder.
