China is known for cranking out all kinds of electronic gadgets, from foldable phones to AI-powered rice cookers, but digital cameras? Not exactly their home turf—at least, not from household names. That changed recently when Lenovo casually waltzed into the imaging game with its very first digital shooter, the Lenovo C55. No grand launch event, no cryptic teaser campaign—just quietly listed on JD.com [CH] for a jaw-dropping 499 yuan (around US$69).

For that meagre sum, you’re getting a surprisingly capable little shooter. It’s powered by a 64 MP Sony 1/3-inch CMOS sensor and is capable of recording in glorious 4K. And it doesn’t stop there. The C55 may look like a toy at first glance, but it packs some serious compact charm: it weighs just 190 grams, comes with a 2.8-inch LCD display, and supports 18x digital zoom.
The front and rear cameras make it ideal for vloggers, while the built-in O-shaped ring light ensures your face stays evenly lit. Yes, a camera with a built-in ring light. I believe this is the first on the market. Anyhoo, it also supports electronic image stabilization, burst shots, time-lapse, slow motion, and even loop recording.
A smart mode dial makes switching modes beginner-friendly, while the 1,300 mAh battery provides around 120 minutes of shooting or 80 minutes of video. It charges via USB-C and takes up to 128 GB TF cards.
Is it a Canon killer? Not even close. But for a camera that costs less than dinner and actually looks cute doing it? The C55 may just be the most fun you can have with 69 bucks and a memory card.
