LG CineBeam Laser 4K Projector CES 2019

Following the HU80K, LG is introducing a second-generation laser projector. The LG HU85L CineBeam Laser 4K Projector, as it is called, utilizes Ultra Short Throw (UST) technology that enables it to be placed extremely close to the walls, while laser projection eliminates any degradation typical of acute angle projection. LG said HU85L can be placed as close as 2 inches from the wall and when doing so, projecting a 90-inch image (diagonally, of course).

We don’t need to tell you that the image is probably simulated, do we?

If placed 7 inches away, it can throw a 120-inch image. And it will do so, delivering 2,500 ANSI lumens and at 4K UHD resolution. Further, HU85L promised to reproduce “highly accurate colors,” thanks to the wide color gamut it is capable of. Well, those are the promises. Personally, I am on the fence about projector. Projector, laser or not, is still at the mercy of ambient light as well as the surface it is projecting on. While it may promised 4K, whether or not you will be treated with images as stunning as those produced by OLED panels is really questionable.

However, I can’t deny that the notion of not having a black panel stuck to wall in the living is indeed an attractive proposition. HU85L also boasts a 12-point keystone adjustment that negates distortion and features AI technology, courtesy of LG ThinQ. So, I guess this is a ThinQ device too? Not sure. LG did not specifically say it is. Anywho, with AI in the mix, you can use voice commands to do things like turning off the project after the movie has finished, search for videos on YouTube and more.

Again, that’s very likely a simulated image

LG HU85L CineBeam Laser 4K Projector is accompanied with a Magic Remote that as a built-in mic for voice commands and search. Now, remote is the one thing that is usually overlooked. But not with this. In addition to support for gestures, Magic Remote has backlit buttons that turn on automatically when motion is detected. Backlit, let alone one that triggered automatically when moved, is something most brands won’t invest in.

It is a thoughtful design touch that also indicates that this baby here is of premium status and hence, like the HU80K, it will be pricey piece of gadget. LG will be showing off the LG HU85L CineBeam Laser 4K Projector at CES 2019, happening between January 8 and 11, 2019. You can find LG Booth, Booth #11100, in Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
