Life-size LEGO VW T2 Camper Van

No. You are not looking at pixelated image of the Volkswagen T2 Camper Van. What you see here is a life-size replica of camper van version of VW’s iconic T2 model. It definitely looks like, over the last couple of years, automakers are totally obsessed with recreating life-size versions of their vehicles. McLaren has done it. So has Chevrolet and Toyota. Volkswagen is no exception. Commissioned by Volkswagen, Rene Hoffmeister, one of the only 12 officials certified LEGO model makers, and his colleague, Pascal Lenhard, spent six weeks and 400,000 LEGO elements to build the life-size LEGO VW T2 camper van based on some 3D images.

The result is a 700 kilograms (1,543 lbs) replica of the Bulli that features Westfalia pop-up roof, sliding door, working headlights, tow bar, and an interior outfitted with amenities like kitchen countertop, sink, seats and whatnot, and furnished with details like a period-accurate boombox, and even toothbrushes and toothpaste – all made out of LEGO elements, of course. The Life-size LEGO VW T2 Camper Van measures an impressive 5 meters (16.4 feet) long, 1.9 meters (6.2 feet) wide and a little under 2 meters tall (6.6 feet), or 3 meters (9.8 feet) with the roof popped up.
