Right. We missed the boat on the Ricoh GR III Diary Edition Special Limited Kit. Well, not entirely because that camera can now be purchased on its own just the GR IIIx Urban Edition. So, hurray, I guess? And yes, Ricoh is still at it with the GR III.

It has been a while since GR III was introduced but we heard it is good and if that’s true, then it makes sense not to reinvent something that is perfectly good. Also, it does feel like Ricoh is lifting a page off Leica’s playbook, doesn’t it? Anyways, back to this delightful little fellow…

If you have already heard, the Limited Edition Ricoh GR III Diary Edition is a premium digital compact camera that is rocking a metallic, warm-gray finish with a natural-silver ring cap. Natural silver? Hmmm. Never mind. It’s just silver.

The textured finish is complemented by a grip rubber with a dark-brown finish. Wait a minute… it kind of looked like the Street Edition without the brown grip and yellow ring, doesn’t it?

Reading the official description, the Limited Edition Ricoh GR III Diary Edition definitely feels more like an art piece than a camera. Well, an art piece that captures art. Interesting…

Beyond the aesthetic, the camera features a new image-control mode for creating photos that appear as if they originated on negative film. There is another new feature and that is the camera will display the number of images captured each day, along with the total number of recorded images, and the firmware version just before it is powered down.

Speaking of powering down, the Ricoh GR III Diary Edition will display an original shut-down screen featuring an embossed product logo against a fabric-textured background in a color similar to the camera body finish, like so:

Save for the shutdown logo, the camera features and image captured info are available for GR III- and GR IIIx-series models with the firmware update released on January 20, 2023. So, yeah, you are really paying for the finish more than anything.

The Limited Edition Ricoh GR III Diary Edition will be available in late April 2023 with an MSRP of US$1,109.95. Meanwhile, you may learn more about the Diary Edition HERE.
