If the LEGO MOC U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) is still a tad too huge for you, fret not, because another LEGO MOC extraordinaire has woven his magic and presents the midi-scale version. That’s right, my fellow excited Trekkies, a midi-scale brick-built NCC-1701-D is a reality. Well, at least the instructions are.
Created by the designer of the original LEGO build, Piers Elliott—otherwise known as Skyfoxbricks—the Midi Scale Star Trek: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D with Shuttlepod GWP is smaller than Luke Bricks’ MOC, and it will make the 60 centimeters long official set feel like a titan.
The 1,060-piece count may not sound like a drastic reduction at first glance, but that total includes a complete Shuttlepod build. And this Shuttlepod may be small, but it has opening doors and space for one or two crew in midi scale. Meanwhile, the main event features a detachable saucer section, letting you relive TNG’s most dramatic moments. It is not a full SNOT build; it has a handful of visible studs.
The model includes the secondary hull (but of course), and a fully accessible bridge playset with, wait for it… the entire crew on board in midi scale, of course. There is Jean-Luc Picard, William Riker, Deanna Troi, Geordi LaForge, Dr. Beverly Crusher, Lt. Worf, Wesley Crusher… and Guinan. There’s even “Spot” the cat, which is pretty much represented by a stud. I know. The crew is kind of abstract, but no less cool.
Other highlights include phaser arrays, impulse engines, Bussard collectors, a main shuttlebay with a craft inside, and a reinforced structure strong enough for both display and play. Off the stand, it measures about 28 cm (11 inches) long, 26 cm (10.2 inches) wide, and 7 cm (2.8 inches) tall. On the stand, it reaches 20 cm (7.9 inches) tall.
