Almost all modern smartphones are imaging-focused. Strangely though, there is not a phone that claims to offer HiFi sound. No. Hi-Res Audio-certified phones do not count. We are talking about a dedicated, high-end HiFi audio device such as those from Sony, Fiio, and the like that has all the works to deliver HiFi sound. But that changed recently.
Moondrop, best known for its super high-end headphones, has gotten into the smartphone market to bring HiFi audio to a smart communication device. The Moondrop MIAD01 5G Smartphone HiFi Audio Device, as it is called, is a HiFi audio device that also happens to have all of smartphone functionality and features – including imaging.
MIAD01 eliminates the need to bring along an additional HiFi audio device, or decoders and/or amplifiers when you want to enjoy high-quality, unadulterated audio.
Under the hood, it packs a dual flagship DAC (Cirrus Logic MasterHiFi), a 6-layer audio circuit featuring gold-sinking independent audio circuit shields, a dynamic range of up to 132 dB and a signal-to-noise ratio as high as 117 dB.
The audiophile department further boasts an independent LDO power supply, and it has not one but two audio output jacks. There is a regular 3.5 single-ended headphone jack AND a 4.4 mm fully-balanced headphone jack. Moondrop said the audio headphone jacks bypass the underlying SRC of Android which many of today’s Android phones cannot.
As a phone, it benefits from a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip with an octacore processor (ARM Cortex-A78 @ 2.6 GHz, ARM Cortex-A55 @ 2.0 GHz), 12 GB LPDDR4X RAM,m 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage, and support up to 2 TB storage expansion card. Other spec-sheet details include a 120 Hz 6.7-inch FHD flexible OLED curved display, 1,920 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, a 64 MP HD dual camera (64 MP main and an 8 MP wide-angle), a 32 MP front-facing camera, dual speakers, NFC, dual nano SIM, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 33 W PD fast charging. It runs on pure Android.
The Moondrop MIAD01 5G Smartphone HiFi Audio Device is currently available only in China for 2,499 yuan (approximately US$345). It is not clear if the phone will make it to the world outside. Meanwhile, you may learn more HERE.
