In case you haven’t heard, before Xiaomi revealed its new folding phone, Motorola announced a new Razr phone a day after Samsung unpacked its new folding phones. And yes, it is a folding phone. However, the new Motorola Moto Razr 2022 was not announced globally; it was announced for the China market for now.
Unlike the previous Razr folding phones which had a design that clearly banked on users’ nostalgia, the new Razr has completely ditched the 2004 Razr’s wannabe aesthetic. This means no more ugly chin. And it has way more screen real estate this time.
The Motorola Moto Razr 2022 has an almost square form when closed. The external is the large 2.7-inch touch screen display and the main display is a 144 Hz 6.7-inch OLED display in 20:9 aspect ratio and with HDR10+ support. The secondary display is a fully functional display to allow full phone functionality without flipping open the device.
One of the key highlights of the device had to be the 3rd generation hinge design that is said to have the largest screen folding internal radius, coming in at 3.3 mm. Motorola said that this result in minimal fold lines.
In addition, it also utilized UTG, the so-called flexible glass which Samsung Galaxy Fold phones also use, and a special “pattern SUS” mesh that minimizes uneven screens typical of folding phones. Oh, the new Razr can now fold at any angle like the Z Flip, thus realizing handsfree viewing at any angle, or using it to take group photos handsfree.
In the imaging department, it has a dual camera setup consisting of a 50 MP sensor main camera with OIS, and a 13 MP sensor 121° super-wide-angle camera that is also capable of macro photography at 2.8 cm. Meanwhile, the front is a large 32 MP wide-angle selfie camera.
Other highlights include Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, aerospace grade aluminum frame, a dual finish aesthetic (matte + glossy), Corning Gorilla 3D Glass, Dolby Atmos, and supports no less than 19 5G frequency bands and 27 4G frequency bands to realize a true roaming device – just to name a few.
The Motorola Moto Razr 2022 is available to order in China with a starting price of 5,999 RMB (or about US$885).
