When LEGO BrickHeadz launched, it was built specifically around stylized “chibi,” or Q-version, caricatures of pop culture characters. If you haven’t already realized, the adorable formula—a hefty 4×4-brick head paired with a tiny 2×2 torso and stubby limbs—is not limited to conventionally shaped characters. In other words, it may be Q, but it ain’t always blocky, as Dumbo and many others have proven.
Now, more iconic characters have joined the shape-breaking lineup. Folks, meet the LEGO BrickHeadz Gremlins Gizmo and Stripe Figures. That’s right, my fellow ’80s horror-flick connoisseurs: the Gremlins got bricked.
Gizmo remains an adorable Mogwai, happily holding a bucket of popcorn, while Stripe has already gone full Gremlin and comes armed with a skateboard. Since both are now made from ABS plastic, getting them wet should not result in additional BrickHeadz. Feeding them after midnight is probably also safe.
The 230-piece set includes a Gizmo figure standing over 8 cm (3 inches) tall and a Stripe figure measuring over 9 cm (3.5 inches). Both feature printed details and individual display bases.
Joining the movie monsters is the LEGO BrickHeadz SpongeBob SquarePants Figure. At 72 pieces, SpongeBob may be the most naturally BrickHeadz-compatible character ever produced. LEGO barely had to square him up. He stands over 8 cm (3 inches) tall and comes equipped with his trusty jellyfishing net, presumably because recreating eight hours behind the Krusty Krab register would be less exciting.
Rounding out the arrivals are the Golden Age Superman and Batman Figures. This 218-piece set recreates the DC icons in their vintage costumes, back when superheroes wore their underwear outside, and nobody questioned it.
Superman contains a hidden green Kryptonite brick, which seems like a questionable thing to install inside Superman. Batman hides a special golden coin commemorating the 20th anniversary of LEGO DC Batman. Bruce Wayne could simply carry money like a normal billionaire, but where is the drama in that?
All three sets are available now. The SpongeBob SquarePants Figure costs US$12.99, while the Gremlins Gizmo and Stripe Figures and Golden Age Superman and Batman Figures are US$24.99 each.
