Ever wish there is a 1:8 scale brick-built JDM? Well, if you do, then you must have done something good because it just happened. But not from LEGO. It’s from CaDA, the same company behind the Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN C42 2022 building set and the Mercedes-AMG One.
Officially licensed by Japanese automaker Mazda is the new CaDA 1:8 Scale Mazda RX-7 based on brick toy designer Artemy Zotov’s MOC, RX-7 VeilSide Fortune. If you have watched Tokyo Drift, you will have seen this car. It was Han’s ride. However, this model isn’t a The Fast and the Furious’s license product.
I don’t believe it is licensed by Veilside either. But it has tire maker Goodyear’s blessing though which is super cool. There are many things to be excited about the new Officially Licensed CaDA 1:8 Scale Mazda RX-7 [CH].
Besides it being the first ever JDM to be turned into a mass-produced “Technic” set; it boasts the first ever brick-built/Technic-built Rotary engine to see mass production too.
However, I have to say that the Technic rotary engine is a little on the abstract side. CaDA/Artemy Zotov should have picked up on Akiyuki’s brick-built Wankel engine. Just saying… Anyhoo, the engine is connected to the wheels (and vice versa), so it the rotary piston will make the rounds as the model rolls.
Other highlights include four-wheel independent suspension, a 4-gear manual gearbox, a functional steering wheel (steerable via a steering knob), opening doors, hood and trunk, light-up headlights and taillights.
Like the Mercedes-AMG One, this is also a remote control model. It has three motors and a rechargeable battery brick, and it is supplied with an extension cable, an LED set, plus a 2.4G remote control pad with a miniature steering wheel. TBH, I am not a fan of the RC function but it is what it is.
When completed, the model measures 56.2 cm long, 27.5 cm wide, and 21.6 cm tall. Oh, the aforementioned officially licensed Goodyear tire set is not standard; it is, for now, a gift with the purchase of this model.
The Officially Licensed CaDA 1:8 Scale Mazda RX-7 was launched in China on August 05, 2024, for 1,199 yuan [CH], which is around 168 USD based on today’s going rate.
