In Iron Man movies, Tony Stark was often seen manipulating digital data in the real physical world. Well, folks. That is about to become a reality, well, almost – thanks to Oppo AR Glass 2021.
Like the Oppo X 2021, there are working prototypes. Oppo said that this new concept AR eyewear is nearly 75% lighter than its predecessor. It is built with Birdbath optical solution which allows viewing of contents equivalent to 90-inch display at a distance of 3 meters (9.9 feet).
The glasses has a “split design” and features built-in speaker on either side on the temple. It is not standalone, though. Wired connection to a smartphone is required for the Oppo AR Glass 2021 to work.
Oppo AR Glass 2021 is outfitted with diverse sensors, which include a pair of stereo fisheye cameras, a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor, and a RGB camera, that support a natural interactions via smartphone, gestures, and SLAM spatial positioning, and executing three-dimensional spatial localization calculation in milliseconds.
This allows the eyewear to achieve precise localization and offers real and natural experience of spatial interaction with the AR world. In short, Oppo’s vision of AR glass is one that lets you do the Tony Stark thing.
Oppo envisioned a hardware like the Oppo AR Glass 2021 to be used for consuming medias, gaming, home (presumably interior decoration or design), and AR photography and videoing.
The company is expected to launch the AR developer program in which it will be providing developers with SDK and other tools. Subsequently, Oppo will also open up both Oppo Mobile AR and Oppo AR Glass platforms to develop cross-platform, user-level AR applications.
