Oppo Prototype Waterfall Screen

Hundred percent or even near 100 percent screen-to-body ratio is not possible at this point. But thanks to curved display technology, handset makers are able to achieve the illusion of very high screen-to-body ratio. Now, Oppo is, in the company’s own words, “taking borderless smartphone innovation to new heights” with a new edge-to-edge display technology that it dubs ‘Waterfall Screen’ technology.

Oppo Prototype Waterfall Screen

Never mind the logic of calling it a ‘Waterfall Screen”; all you need to know is, Oppo has taken curved display to new heights with ridiculous curves that go all the way to the sides. When I said ‘all the way’, I do mean all the way. You know, as in all the way to the vertical of the sides. There’s no doubt this display technology will bump up the screen-to-body ratio to very close to 100 percent and while impressive and sleek as it might be, it looks kind of weird at the same time. I am guessing it will be trend moving forward.

Oppo is quickly becoming the forerunner in smartphone innovations. So far, it is known for its 10x optical zoom technology, weird pivoting pop-up camera, and more recently, under display selfie camera. By comparison, this ridiculous curved display technology seems a little tame, don’t you think? Anyways, brace yourself for a future of extreme curved display and also, a future of no screen protector because, I would think screen with this much curve probably makes it hard to even create a screen protector to protect it.
