outTask TD2 All-in-One Lantern

When you are out camping, a task light is probably not at the top of your to-bring list. But what if I told you there is a camping/adventure flashlight that is also a task light and then some? Enter the ouTask TD2 All-in-One Lantern. Don’t be fooled by its name. It may be called a ‘lantern’, but it is far from the lantern that Quasimodo or Renfield would’ve carried around.

The TD2 looks decidedly lab-like. Not going to lie. When I first saw it, I thought it was a high-tech flask or a vessel meant to contain cryogenically frozen embryos of some mutant dinosaur. But it isn’t. The TD2 is a flashlight with an all-metal skeleton design that is tough, sleek, and pocket-ready. OK, maybe a very large pocket.

The beauty of this camping gadget is that it’s compact, but it can also be tall when the situation demands. It is a flashlight, an ambient desk light, and also a wide-area floodlight. It can shine anywhere thanks to its 720° omnidirectional head and 260° rotating body. The adaptive magnetic tripod further adds to its versatility, allowing you to stick it to ferrous metal surfaces like cars, fridges, and whatnot.

In the lighting department, it boasts advanced optics that radiate 1,500 lumens with an adjustable color temperature of 2000K–7000K, and a CRI (that’s Color Rendering Index for the uninitiated) of 90. It also touts a tactical red light mode perfect for hunting, as well as the world’s first dual-sided emergency red-and-blue warning light.

The TD2 is designed from the ground up to survive whatever you throw at it. It is heatproof, freeze-proof, completely waterproof, and crush-resistant. It’s safe to say it may outlast you in an unfortunate disaster. Keeping it juiced is a replaceable TD2 battery, though it’s also compatible with 2x 21700 lithium cells.

The ouTask TD2 All-in-One Lantern can be had at up to 40% off its final retail price—US$149—during its Kickstarter campaign. Unsurprisingly, the campaign has already met its funding goal. All that’s left is for the campaign to run out and for outTask to fulfill pledges sometime in December 2025.
