If a person who needs to take medication on regular basis has only one thing to do and that is to take medications, then he or she will never forget. The truth is, everyone has other things to do and that sometimes result in one forgetting the all-important medications. Hong Kong-based Qualife aims to alleviate this issue with a new product called Cyco.
Basically, Cyco is a smart pillbox. Features like automated scheduling, dose indicators, and dual sensors all work together to ensure you take the medicine on time, without errors while keeping your caregivers on top of your progress. But Cyco is no Tony Stark’s JARVIS. There is a teeny weeny bit of legwork to be done before it can function as it should and that is to set up the data, including details like medicine type, dosage and time, so that Cyco can generate a schedule automatically.
After that, it is just a matter of topping up the medications. Hardware-wise, Cyco takes on a compact, disc form that has a rotation cap for accessing the desire compartment and with built-in “correct dose LEDs” that will light up only if the cap is rotated to the right compartment. In event if you turn to a wrong compartment, it will trigger an audible alert. Now, that kind of smart!
In addition, there’s a dual sensor system that is able to detect if the medication from the correct slot has been taken. Cyco is an interesting, high-tech of a pillbox and I can see its use not limited to medication; it could be use for those who feed regularly on vitamins. However, it may not a foolproof device; like many smart gadgets today, it is only as good if it is setup properly.
If you down for a smart pillbox, you can find Qualife Cyco on Kickstarter where you can pre-order a unit for 449 Hong Kong dollars, or about US$57. The campaign has already met its funding goal and so, yeah, your pledge for a product is a pre-order and it will be fulfilled as early as November 2018. Keep reading to catch the product pitch video.
