R/C Podracer at Mode-Hobby-Spiel Fair Germany

During the recent Model-Hobby-Spiel Fair in Leipzig, Germany, something caught our attention and it wasn’t the regular R/C models. Instead, it was a bunch of futuristic racers, or The Phantom Menace‘s Podracers to be precise. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace may have failed us, but the image of Anakin Skywalker’s Podrace had many enthralled. It was possibly the best scenes in the entire show. It had all the elements many geeks love: adrenalin pumping racing, futuristic flying racers, and shrewd aliens. Lets not forget about that. All thanks to today’s advancement in micro motors, Podracers are now a reality. Or at least, it is as far as R/C is concerned.

Using a combination of electric ducted fan (EDF) and horizontally-mounted rotor, these R/C Podracers behaved like the real-deal depicted in the movie and we couldn’t be more excited. I was thinking: if scale version is possible, why not a full-scale one? Just thinking aloud here. Seriously, someone should make one already. Aside from size, the only difference was, they weren’t going as fast as the movie’s. Other than that, they looks like the futuristic racers pulled straight from the Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Would I love to have one? You bet!
