With specs and aesthetics that rival flagship devices, there is no reason not to pick up a mid-range device. Case in point: the new Redmi K70 Champion Edition Smartphone. Even better is a special collaboration model with Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team known as Redmi K70 Supreme Champion Edition. Before we get to this exciting edition, let’s dig into the specs of the Redmi K70 Supreme Edition.
The Redmi K70 Supreme Edition [CH] is a mid-ranger with flagship specs. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+. It is a 4 nm process flagship chip with an octacore processor featuring 8 big cores with a max clock speed of 3.4 GHz, a 12-core GPU (lmmortalis-G720 MC12), and the seventh generation AI processor, the MediaTek APU 790. In the area of AI, the device boasts 33 billion large language models and it is dual dual-chip device.
In addition to the SoC, it features a 12 nm HyperEngine D1 dedicated gaming display chip that lets you gaming without worry and at the best framerates possible. This second chip is further boosted by HyperEngine 3.0, an all-new 3D ice-sealed dissipation system that can shave core temperature by up to 3°C, ensuring the device remains cool even under intense load.
Aesthetically, it is sleek and classy. It features a straight metal frame paired with a front and back with subtle curved edges. This is not the first time Xiaomi has employed this design language; it can also be found on the Civi 4 Pro, though I thought the curve on the Civi 4 Pro is more pronounced, IMHO. But it could be just me who felt this way.
It is outfitted with an all-new 1.5K flagship eye-protecting flat display. As noted, the display is not entirely flat. It has very subtle curved edges. It is a 12-bit display, measuring 6.67-inch diagonally, and has a max refresh rate of 144 Hz, 4,000 nits peak brightness, 2,160 Hz instant touch sampling rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, ZREAL certified eye-protection, HDR Vivid, and 3840 Hz PWM dimming. The display’s durability is assured by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal glass.
The new Redmi K70 Supreme Edition is rocking a triple camera system featuring a 50 MP Sony IMX906 1/1.56” image sensor with OIS and DAG HDR, an 8 MP super wide-angle, and a 2 MP macro camera. For the first time on the Redmi device, the camera is bolstered by Xiaomi AISP AI large model computational photography platform.
In addition to OIS on the main camera, the rear cameras also benefit from EIS and further touts up to 8K video recording at 24/30 fps. It can of course record in 4K 24/30/60 fps, as well as 1080p30/60 and 720p30—plus slow-mo at 1080p or 720p at 120/240/960 fps. Over at the front, it has a 20 MP high-res portrait camera that tops out at 1080p/30.
The device is juiced by a 5,500 mAh battery featuring 120 W fast charging, Smart Charging Engine 2.0, and Xiaomi Hyper Battery Management System, coupled with Xiaomi’s “Haixing” algorithm. Also first for Redmi is the Xiaomi Hyper T1 signal-enhancing chip that boosts Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performance by 12% and GPS by 20%.
Other notables include support for Wi-Fi 7 and older standards, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, positioning (Beidou B11+B1C + B2a, GPS L1 + L5, Galileo E1 + E5a, GLONASS G1, QZSS L1 + L5, NavIC L5, AGNSS, and more), stereo speaker, x-linear motor, multi-function NFC, and IR remote. It is IP68 rated, waterproofed to 2 meters for up to 30 minutes.
As you can see, the specs are flagship-level. It is no wonder that Automobili Lamborghini approved of this model to be the collaborative handset.
The special Raging Bull model, dubbed Redmi K70 Supreme Champion Edition, is inspired by the Italy supercar maker’s Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 race car. Redmi completely redesigned the K70 Supreme Edition so much that you probably not associate it with the K70 Supreme Edition without any mention.
The Champion Edition rocks a carbon fiber upper section with a V bottom that leads to a Y-shaped line that mimics the hypercar’s waistline. The Y line gave the illusion that is raised in the middle like the car but it is not. A clever design enables the two sides of the Y to appear to have different shades, thus reinforcing the illusion of a protruding center.
This trick works even in the case of the orange model where it does not have the obvious orange Y pattern. Meeting at the end of this Y line is the Lamborghini logo complete with the Squadra Corse which is Italian for racing team.
Rounding up the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 theme is a carbon fiber pattern power button and a Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2-inspired UI. The Champion Edition is presented with beautiful Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse packaging containing a case with the same design as the phone, a few Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse goodies, a Lamborghini emblem SIM ejector, and a black power brick with Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse logo.
The Redmi K70 Supreme Champion Edition Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse is offered in 24 GB + 1 TB configuration for 3,999 yuan (about US$550). As for the regular K70 Supreme Edition, it starts at super affordable 2,599 yuan [CH], which is about US$358 according to the current going rate.
