If you travel a lot, you know a good carry-on is a game-changer—especially if you like packing light and keeping essentials within easy reach. Folks, meet the Peak Design’s Roller Pro Carry-On Luggage, a suitcase so thoughtfully designed it makes you wonder why luggage wasn’t always this smart.

Peak Design may be new to suitcases, but they didn’t play it safe. This hybrid soft/hard-shell carry-on reinvents nearly everything except the wheels. Its SlimDrive Trolley System, a 7 mm-thin carbon fiber handle, maximizes internal space while resisting bending. The 80/20 drawbridge opening flips open at a fixed angle, meaning no more doubling your footprint just to get inside your suitcase—finally making hotel luggage racks useful.
Protection-wise, it features four layers: VersaShell 550D fabric, EVA foam, a polycarbonate shell, and a felt interior. Storage is just as clever, with front access pockets, a padded laptop slot with Snap Tent magnetic closure, and an aluminum key tether. Inside, the Cordhook Retention System holds items in place without annoying mesh panels, while a rollable Organization Panel keeps smaller essentials tidy.
The large 60 mm 360° wheels promise an “absurdly smooth” ride and are replaceable if they wear out. Security-wise, ULTRAZIPS with UHMWPE threads lock in one go with your TSA-approved padlock (not included). There’s even a hidden passport pocket and AirTag-sized compartment for added peace of mind.
For photographers, it transforms into a camera bag with the optional XL Camera Cube, while Cord Hook connection points and Gear Loops allow for extra gear attachment like the brand’s highly popular, super well-received tripod that garnered nearly 6 million dollars in funding on Kickstarter some years ago.
It’s expandable, tough enough for checking, and even comes with a laser-cut HYPERLON ID tag—so no need for a luggage tag. The only downside? It’s not cheap. Peak Design’s 14th Kickstarter campaign lets you grab one for US$425 or more, which is less than retail but still a hefty price.
I don’t travel much, but I’m tempted. If you’re always on the move, this might just be your perfect carry-on.
