Rolls-Royce Bespoke Koa Wood Phantom Extended

A luxury car’s interior is not necessary defined by gold and diamonds. Sometimes, the real luxury is wood – especially when the wood in question is the rare and highly prized Koa. And Koa Wood is what this Bespoke Commission Rolls-Royce Phantom has in its interior.

Three years in the making, this first-ever Rolls-Royce Bespoke Koa Wood Phantom Extended features, you guessed it, a Koa Wood interior. The Koa Wood used in this uber luxe, bespoke commission Rolls was naturally harvested from a rare private collection in Hawaii.

The car, which has an exterior hue color-matched to the rare 1934 Packard Twelve Coupe which Jack Boyd Smith, Jr. owns, is the fifth Roll-Royce to join The JBS Collection of Jack Boyd Smith, Jr. in Elkhart, Indiana.

For the uninitiated, Koa Wood is a rare species of tree that only grows in Hawaii where many local laws are in place to protect it. The beauty of the wood and the rarity make Koa one of the most expensive woods in the world, fetching as much as US$150 per board-foot.

But why Koa Wood? Well, that’s because, it was inspired by a Koa Wood rocking chair, which has been a centerpiece of his family home for many years. By having Koa Wood in his car, Mr. Smith will be able to experience the warm, familiar atmosphere when traveling in his Rolls-Royce commission.
