What used to be the “runway” show for the usual flagship Galaxy S series at this time of the year has been outshone by a new type of Galaxy – the much anticipated clamshell folding screen phone, the Galaxy Z Flip.
First teased last year, the phone look exactly as it was leaked. If I can be honest, Galaxy Z Flip, is like a candy bar phone, folded into half. Aesthetically, it is clean and understandably unexciting – except the folding part, of course.
It boasts Samsung’s first foldable glass display, the Infinity Flex Display with proprietary bendable Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) and like a “proper phone” it has a camera on the inside – a hole punch camera, to be precise.
And finally, there’s the new hideaway hinge which allows it to open at a range of angles just like a laptop. Oh, you are worry about dirt and dust? Fret not, the hinge also features a new sweeper technology, which uses nylon fibers crafted by micro-height-cutting technology to repel those nasty stuff.
Here’s the official infographic with everything you need to know about this new folding phone from Samsung (click on image to view larger version):
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will be available in limited quantities, in Mirror Purple and Mirror Black, starting in select markets including the U.S. and Korea on February 14, 2020. Mirror Gold will be available in select countries following that, though it is not known when. Pricing is not clear either.
That’s not it. For the ready-to-spend fashionista, Samsung has teamed up with New York fashion label Thom Browne for a special edition Galaxy Z Flip that features the fashion label’s signature brand colors on a pebble grey exterior.
The new Galaxy Buds+ and Galaxy Watch Active2 also gets the same Thom Browne treatment too. Just so you know.
Limited quantity of Galaxy Zip Flip Thom Browne Edition will be available in select markets. If you are down, be sure to pre-order it on February 14 on Samsung.com, Thombrowne.com, NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER. Officially, it will be available starting in March.
