unlike some headphones makers who surround themselves with limited editions and style statement, SMS Audio takes on a more ‘wholesome’ approach with their latest line of sports in-ear headphones. the personal audio gear maker has partnered with Intel to announced the first biometric headphones, dubbed SMS Audio BioSport In-Ear Headphones, that not only lets you enjoy your favorite tunes, but also monitors your fitness as you workout to the music. in this way, you will have one less (wearable) tech to wear the next time you hit the gym. biometric sensors are incorporated into the tiny earbuds to collect fitness data. an optical sensor continuously measures the heart rate throughout your activities, be it intense exercise or states of relaxation or anything in between, as long as you have the buds in your ears. fitness monitor marries sports earbuds – well, it sure sounds like music to us, at least it beats wearing a chest strap monitor any time.
the sports earbuds also boast an energy harvesting gold-plated audio jack that dispense with the need for batteries or chargers to power the onboard custom heart rate monitor. according to the SMS Audio, the SMS Audio BioSport In-Ear Headphones will work with popular fitness app RunKeeper, with additional support coming your way. being a sports in-ears, it is naturally sweat and water resistance (IPX4 rated, which means it can resist water sprayed from all directions), while patented ear-hook design offers a comfy and secure fit. it comes equipped with a tangle-free cord with an in-line microphone, and a neoprene carrying case is provided for safe storage, along with three sizes of ear gels and hooks to suit varying ear types. the SMS Audio BioSport In-Ear Headphones is slated for quarter four release, with pricing to be advised.
