StudioSYUTO Sesame Ball Model Kit

If an unorthodox model kit like the Cup Noodle proved to be a non-challenge for your superb model kit-building skills, well then may we introduce you to this other out-of-the-ordinary model kit from StudioSYUTO: the Sesame Ball Model Kit. That’s right, it’s a model kit of a beloved sweet snack with its origin in China and popularized across Asia, from Japan to Malaysia and Singapore, where it goes by the name Jiandui. Traditionally, it’s a round treat, although you might find some flatter versions.

This 1:1 scale sesame ball model is just 4 cm (1.6 inches) across. But don’t let its small size fool you – it’s composed of over 900 parts. These parts include the key ingredient of this Asian delight: red bean paste, represented by two halves of a dark red/black ball. However, once you’ve put it together, the bean paste stays hidden within the outer shell.

So, what about the other 800-plus parts? Well, those are the sesame seeds. Yes. I know. It’s alarming because building this model kit will test your patience and dedication. You’ll need to individually glue on each of these sesame seeds on the outer shell to complete the sesame ball. you’ll need glue and tweezers for this build, but they’re not included.
