The celebration continues for the 40 years of Transformers. This time with a collection from Japanese fashion SuperGroupies who are kind of the specialists in brand collaborations. Three characters from the popular Transformers franchise, namely Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron, have lent their design and colors to SuperGroupies’ innovative transformable fashion items.
“Transformable” is not a figure of speech or just a tagline. These fashion pieces are actually transformable. OK. Maybe not in the way you imagined. Transformable items include watches that switch between metal and rubber bands, outerwear that can become a waist bag, and wallets with built-in money clips, blending iconic Transformers elements with functional, stylish designs.
I think the concept of transformable is not quite as pronounced on the timepiece and the wallet. If you ask me the parka is truly transformable. It can quickly switch from a cozy hooded pullover to a fanny pack that lets you bring the outerwear around and still be able to store your small items. Very cool indeed. The bag/jacket hybrid is, of course, in the respective character’s colors and bears the faction emblem and Transformers branding.
As far as the timepiece goes, there are chronographs but Bumblebee and Megatron share the same physical design. Where Optimus Prime has rectangle sub-dials to mimic the truck’s front windows, Megatron and Bumblebee have round sub-dials.
The details for each item are far more than we can cover here. If you read Japanese, you can check out the collection HERE [JP]. If not, just use Chrome browser to view it and have it translate the entire page for you. It is not the most accurate translation but you will get the gist of it.
SuperGroupies has opened the books for the SuperGroupies x Transformers collection. The wallet sells for 17,600 yen (about US$117) each, and the parka goes for 26,400 yen (about US$176). Meanwhile the watch commands 38,500 yen (around US$256). SuperGroupies’ Japanese website does support international shipping, so yes, you can totally buy them if you want. So I guess it is good news?
