The Suzuki Jimny has always been a tiny box of rugged charm. It’s tough, simple, and unapologetically old-school. But the new Jimny Nomad? Well, that’s a different story. Suzuki unveiled the 5-door version of its cult classic, and the response was so overwhelming they had to pull the pre-orders. Turns out, people really like the idea of cramming more passengers into a car that looks like it should come with a “Mountain Approved” stamp.
So, what’s new? For starters, the Nomad is longer than the regular Jimny by 340 mm (13.4 inches), making it slightly less like a shoebox and more like a, well, bigger shoebox. This extra stretch gives passengers in the back some much-needed legroom, so your friends will finally stop complaining about “Jimny knees.” The cargo space also gets a boost, which means more room for camping gear, or if you’re feeling nostalgic, enough snacks to survive a 90s-style road trip.
Suzuki didn’t mess with the fundamentals, though. It still rides on a tough ladder frame, has 210 mm (8.3 inches) of ground clearance, and runs a 1.5-liter DOHC VVT engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. In other words, it’s still a proper off-roader that’ll happily climb rocks and splash through mud while looking effortlessly cool in the city.
Speaking of looks, the Nomad gets some fresh colors, including “Sizzling Red Metallic” and “Jungle Green 2.” The grille also gets a makeover with a gunmetal finish and chrome accents. It’s a subtle nod to sophistication—just enough to make you feel fancy without needing to swap your hiking boots for dress shoes.
The Jimny Nomad officially launches on April 3, 2025, with prices starting at ¥2,651,000 [JP] (around US$17,700). If you missed the pre-order chaos, keep your eyes peeled for the next round. With this kind of hype, Suzuki might need to start treating Jimny’s sales like concert tickets.
