Cellular-connected Pokéball Pokémon Detector

If you play Pokémon Go, you will know the frustration of missing out those adorable creatures when it appears around you, more so if it is a rare Pokémon. In order not to miss anything, you need to be holding the device in your hand and staring at the screen always, which is exactly what I did and I feel so silly, and that’s not to mention, with the screen always on and GPS firing off every now and then, this game is a serious battery drainer. The solution? Simple, you can either use the Pokémon Detector app, or you could do what Particle community member TJ Hunter did: built his very own Pokémon detecting Pokéball.

While Android Wear with Pokémon Detector solution looks cool, having a Pokéball that does the same thing seems like a fitting way to get on with your Pokémon Go addiction. Packed within the ball is a Particle Electron that allows the device to connect to the cellular network and a GPS chip for positioning. Working through Pokémon API, the device will sniff out if there are any rare Pokémon nearby and if there is, it will wiggle to let you know. Only then, you will need to retrieve your device and start hunting.
