As realistic as die-cast models are, they cannot replicate the dynamism of actual vehicles. Meanwhile, toys—RC models included—can, but often lack the realism (OK, maybe except for Capo’s). TOMY+ saw a void and started introducing 1:10 die-cast vehicles that come alive. Soon to join its portfolio of 1:10 vehicles, which includes the Knight Rider K.I.T.T. and the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine, is another silver-screen icon: Dom’s Charger from the original Fast & Furious movie.
That’s right. Of the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T left behind by his father, Dom said, “So much torque, the chassis twisted coming off the line. Barely kept her on the track.” Now, it will be recreated in 1:10 scale with some pretty cool gimmicks to bring it to life. Well, “bringing it to life” does not include launching off the starting line, though. However, you will get to enjoy witnessing the engine rumble, complete with moving engine components—a spinning belt-driven supercharger and all—which is arguably the closest you will ever get to seeing this Detroit muscle actually twist its chassis.
It has a movable hood, letting you observe the rest of the monstrous engine. As before, the model is die-cast, and it further boasts working hideaway headlights, taillights, and gauges. The model also features a special-effects touch sensor on the back alongside a hidden USB-C charging port, plus another icon in its own right: the CRAGAR-style wheels with poseable front wheels.
TOMY+ said this officially licensed, collector-grade die-cast replica offers burnout effects, too, though details are scarce at this point. The 1:10 Fast & Furious Dom’s Charger Replica will be crowdfunded in around 18 days. You can sign up to be notified when it is launched here. The price has yet to be revealed.
