Hot Toys 1/6 Scale Back to the Future II DeLorean Time Machine is the dream of many BTTF fans but the price is not for everyone. I, for one, find it a tad too ridiculous to be paying nearly US$900 for it. But before you settle on the lesser examples for Jada and the likes, you may want to know Takara Tomy in the US, simply known as TOMY, has a collectible-grade DeLorean Time Machine to offer fans and at a much, much lower price. Well, albeit at a smaller scale of 1/10.
While it may be 1/10 scale but the TOMY 1/10 Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine is still pretty imposing at 17.40 inches (44 cm) long. Also, at this scale, it perfectly matches up with existing 7-inch figures. Officially licensed by Universal Studios, this scale replica of the DeLorean Time Machine is loaded to the brim with authentic details.
The model pairs a die-cast metal body and doors with plastic parts to recreate one of the most iconic and desirable movie cars of all time. And it emits smoke from its fins too, just like the on-screen time machine did when it reached its destination. Other highlights include opening gullwing doors, free rolling wheels, a detailed interior complete with the iconic flux capacitor, and functional interior and exterior lights.
The TOMY 1/10 Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter where it has already netted nearly a million dollars in funding with over 2,500 backers. If you are down, you may also pre-order a unit for an ultimate early bird price of US$329 (U.P. US$399).
But before you jump into it, you have to know that this campaign only ships to the United States. I know, it sucks. Anyways, this isn’t TOMY’s first crowdfunding endeavor. Last year, TOMY successfully crowdfunded a massive die-cast Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise model, albeit not on Kickstarter.
