30-year-old Japanese apparel brand UNDERCOVER has teamed up with toy maker Medicom Toy again for a rather unexpected product: Bluetooth speakers. The product, UNDERCOVER x Medicom Toy GILAPPLE Speakers, is a 2.2 speaker system.
The shape of the speakers is based on the GILAPPLE animation by UNDERCOVER from 2009, directed by UNDERCOVER’s designer and founder Jun Takahashi. Previously, the two brands have leveraged on GILAPPLE to release a series of lamps and clocks, and this time a pair of speakers join the growing list of GILAPPLE products.
Little is known about this possibly elusive product. We only know it is Bluetooth and has down firing driver on each unit (hence 2.2-channel). No specifications were offered beyond that. It look like each unit has an auxiliary jack? We could be wrong. We also know each unit stands 140 mm (5.5 inches) tall and it comes in delightful candy red colorway.
The UNDERCOVER x Medicom Toy GILAPPLE Speakers will go on sale, in limited quantity, this month in Japan for a pretty steep 68,000 yen (about US$654) plus tax. It will be available from Medicom Toy online store, select UNDERCOVER stores, as well as UNDERCOVER online store.
