Vertu Ironflip Folding Screen Flip Phone

Vertical folding phones aka folding screen flip phones are usually less expensive than regular folding display phones, and it is kind of true even though Huawei Pocket 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 start at around a grand. However, if you think Pocket 2 and Flip5 are expensive for a compact folding phone, well, those phones cannot even hold a candle to the new Vertu Ironflip when it comes to the price.

That’s right, my friends. Vertu is not only alive and kicking but has recently announced its first vertical folding phone called Ironflip. According to Vertu, it is also a Web3 Phone, featuring multifaceted encryption, “three OSes, and a pair of chips.”

Interestingly, where most vertical folding phones are mostly targeted at ladies, Vertu Ironflip has its sights set on masculinity with marketing slogans like ‘Brotherhood Beyond The Heavens—All For Man’, for example.

Vertu’s phones are never about specs and hence it is no surprise that the device is loaded with marketing talks rather than actual specs that we cared about. However, we managed to find some additional details from an Indian tech website, smartprix.

According to smartprix, the Ironflip is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 Mobile Platform, with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB ROM, and no expandable storage. The Ironflip opens up to a 120 Hz 6.9” flexible OLED display with 2,790 x 1,188 pixels.

It has a hole punch camera with a 16 MP sensor. However, the secondary display—which is a circular display—is unknown. I don’t think it matters for it will probably used for time and date most of the time—if not all the time.

Sharing the exterior’s front real estate with the circular display is a dual-camera setup featuring a 50 MP main camera and a 2 MP wide-angle camera.

Other spec sheet details as per Smartpix include a side fingerprint sensor, 4G/5G radios, Bluetooth 5.3, WiFi (version unknown), NFC, USB 3.2 with Type-C interface, and a 4,310 mAh battery with 65 W ultra-fast charging using the included power brick.

As I have said, Vertu is all about luxe and more recently, a secure phone. With regards to the latter, we read that it has 3 OSes and dual chips, but the specs we found online do not reflect this fact. Hmmm, am I missing something here?

Now, the thing about Vertu in recent years is that it is rather sketchy when it comes to product details.

But one thing for sure is that Vertu never passes on the opportunity to highlight the materials and designs to which the new Ironflip touts “36 mm sapphire exterior” (which probably means 3.6 mm thick), and a fusion of steel ceramic, and adamantium… wait what? Adamantium??? I am 100% sure that is fictional metal.

Not sure why Vertu is referencing a fiction metal is beyond me. Anyhoo, the device is also rocking a v-shaped peaked lapel—which is kind of a Vertu thing and a teardrop hinge with “diamond and bearings of Swiss watch-grade” stainless steel that can withstand up to 20,000 folds before finishing off with a solid metal pivot cover plate and leather wrap on the covers.

If anyone’s interested, the new Vertu Ironflip is selling for US$4,500 to US$17,800. Yikes. But are we even surprised?
