Vivo X Fold 2 and X Flip Folding Phones Previewed

Chinese phone Vivo will be revealing the follow-up to its first folding phone, along with a new folding flip phone at the upcoming Vivo Folding Series Flagship Reveal Event on April 20, 2023, at 19:00 Hours China Time. In the keynote, Vivo is expected to announce its second-gen Vivo X Fold, the Vivo X Fold 2, and the new entry, a vertically folding Vivo X Flip.

Obviously, there isn’t a lot to go with for now until the products are officially revealed. However, we understand that the Vivo X Fold 2 will open up to an 8-inch 2K+ E6 display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and it will be powered by a 4 nm chip – 5G no less – and a Vivo self-developed V2 ISP chip. The phone will support the brand’s 120 W flash charge technology.

As for the Vivo X Flip, not a lot is known about this beautiful device. This Samsung Galaxy Z Flip competition have possibly the biggest secondary display among the vertically folding phone, beating even the China-only Razr announced last year. The display, which is curved, takes up nearly half of the exterior.

The other half is where you find a round camera bump with a dual-camera setup – blessed by ZEISS, of course. The resolution of the displays isn’t known but in either case, the bezel is pretty sizeable (though not uncommon in vertically folding phones). It appears to have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The device will have a textured exterior (leather, perhaps?) with a diamond pattern, and looks like it is able to close completely flat. There’s no indication of good or bad fold lines on either device.

Beyond the aesthetics, we know nothing about this pretty little fellow.

At the keynote, Vivo is also expected to reveal the follow-up to Vivo’s first tablet, the Dimensity 9000-powered Vivo Pad 2.

Interestingly, pre-orders for these yet-to-be-officially announced devices are already happening. In fact, Vivo has been taking orders starting on April 11, China Time.
