This is not the first time Xiaomi has targeted kids. This gadget here, the Xiaomi Mi Tu Kids Mobile Phone Watch 3 (basically, a 4G-enabled kid’s smartwatch) is 4G LTE support and along with it, comes a nano SIM slot plus features like a 1.41-inch AMOLED display with 320 x 360 resolution, 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass, and there is even a built-in 2 MP camera with 30 degrees lens. Those are just scratching the surface. If you dig deeper into the spec sheet, you will realize it is more sophisticated than most smartwatches in the market.
Speaking of specifications, it also gets 1 GB of onboard storage, WiFi connectivity, IPX7 rating for resistance against water and dust (good for splashes and very brief immersion), and a host of positioning sensors (GPS, Beidou, AGPS and whatnot). It even has geo-fencing, so parents will know if their kids have strayed too far. Xiaomi Mi Tu Kids Mobile Phone Watch 3 comes with a battery with undisclosed rating said to be good for 30 hours of use per charge.
Strangely, the 2 MP also has an intelligent plant recognition function which will identify plants and let kids into the info of the particular species of plant. Seriously, I have no idea why plants. Like all smartwatches, it has a variety of sensors and do what most smartwatches can do like fitness tracking and whatnot. There’s even a pet that is linked to the fitness tracking feature. The more the kid walks, he or she will get to feed his/her virtual pet. There is another interesting bit here: the smartwatch also offers a selection of children songs and stories to help coax your child to sleep.
Xiaomi Mi Tu Kids Mobile Phone Watch 3, or Xiaomi Mi Bunny Children 4G Smartwatch, is already in the China market, available through Mi Mall, TMall, Suning, and JD.com, priced at a very modest 599 yuan (or about US$88 based on the current going rate).
