OnePlus may have become the very thing that it sworn to not to be, i.e. being an affordable flagship phone. Thankfully, though, not all hope is lost because, there is the Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro.

Aesthetically, the new Pocophone is nothing to shout about. However, it has everything that makes a flagship under the hood. OK. Maybe not everything, but it is close enough – especially when you consider the asking of just a little over US$500.

For significantly less than today’s flagship smartphones, Poco F2 Pro brings to the table Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, featuring an octacore processor with up to 2.8 GHz clock speed, Adreno 650 GPU running at up to 587 MHz and 5th-generation AIE processor.

The latest SoC is bolstered by LPDDR4X or LPDDR5 memory, along with fast UFS 3.1 storage. Unfortunately though, its 6.67-inch AMOLED display maxes out at FHD (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) and it does not have high refresh rate like so many flagships are rocking today.

However, it does support HDR10+ and offers 180 Hz touch sampling rate.

It is worthy to mention that it is one of the rare flagships that proud to tout a sizable macro sensor (5 MP), in addition to its 64 MP Sony IMX686 sensor, 13 MP ultra wide-angle lens camera and a 2 MP depth sensor camera.

Considering how telephoto is all the rage, macro shooter comes as refreshing change. The front is a pop-up camera with 20 MP item with fancy light and sound effect.

Poco F2 Pro also stands out as one packing a reasonable high-capacity battery (4,700 mAh) with 30W fast charging support and perhaps most importantly for power users, LiquidCool Technology 2.0.

Xiaomi said the multi-layer liquid cooling system covers 28 percent of the phone and capable of reducing processor temperature by as much as 14 degrees Celsius (57.2 Fahrenheit).

We heard this cooling tech works wonder, but it does come with a price: thickness and heft. It has a pretty thick profile of 8.9 mm and tips the scales at 219g.

And oh, did we mention it still has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and IR blaster? Yeah. Those are rare features on today’s flagship.

Pocophone is not officially available to stateside, but if you are really keen, you can find it selling on Amazon for US$508.99-US$515. The caveat is, only 6 + 128 GB is available. Skip head to find the official promo video.
