If you missed the opportunity to secure the Nike MAG Back to the Future II self-lacing shoes when it was released in 2011 and in 2016, and you also did not manage to secure the pair that went under the hammer at a Heritage sale, well then, we have awesome news.
There is not one but two pairs of Nike MAG going on the block. One pair hailed from the 2011’s release for the benefit of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and the other pair was from the “re-release” in 2016.
Both the 2011 Nike MAG “Back to the Future” and the 2016 Nike MAG “Back to the Future” are available through the ongoing Modern Collectibles auction by Sotheby’s.
The 2016 model is expected to fetch between 60,000-80,000 USD and it is offered with a reserve of 60,000 USD. The Lot will close on April 1, 12:04 AM (+08).
The 2011 model, which also closed on the same day, is expected to fetch between 25,000-40,000 USD with reserve. It has since received a bid that puts it at 15,000 USD.
Both items are “authenticity guarantee”. The 2016 issue is rarer, btw, because there were only 89 pairs as compared to the initial release had 1,500 pairs.
Whichever pair you go for, it is described as in “pristine condition, without any signs of wear.” Each pair comes with its original box. However, the box does show signs of use (i.e. wear).
If you are down, you can put in your bid(s) over at the Modern Collectibles sale which also features a number of Virgil Abloh-touched kicks (including a pair of LV trainers), as well as a couple of Louis Vuitton x Supreme Red items. Very cool stuff, basically. Go check it out.
