Yamaha Motor has just announced the company will introduced a spanking new recreational off-road vehicle model for 2018, a 4-seat SxS designated 2018 Yamaha ‘Side-by-Side’ Wolverine X4. It promise to bring “new levels of capability, comfort and confidence to the leisure and light utility markets.” Aesthetically, it is pretty much the cool sport vehicle we have come to know and it is as compact as ever, affording maneuvering around narrow forested trails.
Despite the size, the Wolverine X4 is still capable of accommodating up to four grown-ass person – thanks to its newly design chassis – and with a new powerful 850cc parallel twin cylinder engine, paired to Yamaha’s Ultramatic transmission and On-Command drive system (option for 2WD/4WD/Differential Lock), it certainly has no qualms about taking any four person into the wild while remaining agile and sure-footed across a variety of terrains.
With an optimized front/rear distribution, low mounted engine, the Wolverine X4 has achieved a low center of gravity that further boosts its performance over extreme terrains. Furthermore, with a compact size that measures 3,100 mm by 1,580 mm, a wheelbase that comes in at 2,100 mm and a turning radius of no more than 4,500 mm, it promised extreme maneuverability that would allow this little beast to weave along even the most ridiculous trails and doing so with comfort too because of the extreme low noise level and vibration.
Other highlights include cushioned high back seats with higher mounted rear seats, generous rear foot space with angled rear footboards, adjustable driver seat and tiltable steering wheel, high profile doors, foldaway rear seats to enable full-size cargo bed, one-hand operation tailgate, up to 272 kg cargo capacity (when in two-seater configuration), a whopping 907 kg towing capacity, self-leveling rear shocks with automatic load compensation, YCC-T ‘fly-by-wire’ throttle, Speed-Key to limit speed to 40 km/h, LED headlights and tail lights, new dashboard with dimmable digital meters, and finally, 26-inch tires with 12-inch cast aluminum wheels.
