Kia’s first battery-electric vehicle, the Kia EV6, is a lovely car with a pretty impressive spec sheet. But if you desire even more performance, then the GT variant, which was briefly mentioned when the electric crossover was revealed in 2021, is the model to look out for.
Mind you though, the Kia EV6 GT is NOT the GT-line. It is more. A whole lot more. For a start, its all-electric dual-motor powertrain delivers way, way, way more power, at 577 horsepower, which is over 250 horses more than the top-of-the-line GT-line.
Torque has been bumped up significantly too, to 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) compared to the 605 Nm (446 lb-ft) on the current top-of-the-line e-AWD model. This also affords the GT to wipe the century sprint (0-62 mph) in mere 3.2 seconds – or 1.6 seconds faster than the current range-topping EV6.
The Kia EV6 GT further features a GT button – in striking bright lime green – on the steering for activating the ‘GT’ mode that automatically optimizes the vehicle’s e-motors, braking, steering, suspension, e-LSD, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) for a more engaging drive.
The 2022 Kia EV6 GT will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (June 23-26) where it will take on the famous hill climb “several times” over the weekend. It will be piloted by pro rally driver Jade Paveley.
In addition, the all-new Kia Niro EV will be on display at the Festival’s ‘Electric Avenue’. Deliveries for U.K. customers for the Kia EV6 GT will start at the end of 2022, with the car available to order from £59,955 (roughly US$73,347).
Meanwhile, the Niro EV is also available to order now, starting at £34,995 (around US$42,783). That’s what the press release said.
However, when we visited the configurator on the Kia UK website, it has yet to include the GT model. Neither was the Niro EV listed.
