With The Flash movie behind us, we thought that’s it for DC in 2023 as far as Justice League heroes go but there is a movie we have mostly forgotten. In fact, we almost had a Mandela Effect with this movie as most of us have thought it was shown in theaters and we had missed it. But nope, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has yet to hit the theaters.
After multiple delays due to the pandemic, multiple leadership changes at Warner Bros., and a series of reshoots, the second Aquaman movie is hitting the theaters later this year. Here’s the recap of what the story is about because we all needed it since it has been mostly forgotten:
“Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.”
And yes, the most controversial actor of our time Amber Heard is still in it. Just how much of her screen time remains is still pretty murky. The film was directed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman. The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to open in theaters worldwide on December 20, 2023.
