Armored Warfare God: Sun Wukong

It is not even midweek, but I think I may have seen enough for the week – thanks to this Chinese Iron Man-style movie called Armored Warfare God: Sun Wukong. The star hero here is Sun Wukong, otherwise known as Monkey King, and the story is an adaption, or more correctly put, loosely based on the 16th century Chinese classic literary work, Journey to the West.

There are an abundance of movies that revolved around Monkey King. So rightly, another Monkey King-based movie shouldn’t surprise Chinese viewers, but there is just one problem with this “adaptation”: Sun Wukong is a human and in an Iron Man-style suit. No shitting me.

Honestly, it is extremely hard for someone like me who have watched this mythical legend came to live on the tube and silver screen since young to accept that Monkey God IS human and needs the aid of modern tech to fight. It is nothing less than outrageous, if you ask me. What’s even more outrageous is the 50 cents CGI which, apparently, its maker was very proud of. Like, seriously? They have NOT seen better CGI? Really?

Never mind the fact that the Monkey King here lacks the God-like powers that rightly had. Never mind that he needed science to help him fight. What I blew my mind (in a bad way, that is) is his armored suit and Marvel’s Iron Man’s resemblance is uncanny. OK. It is NOT uncanny. It is a blatant rip off, right down to the sound effects and the suit’s UI. Man, what in the world were the filmmakers smoking when they conceived this ridiculous idea?

I am not even vaguely interested in Armored Warfare God: Sun Wukong, but if you are, the movie drops today in China and thankfully, it is supposed to be an online movie. To summarize… no, Armored Warfare God: Sun Wukong did not star Robert Downey Jr. and neither is not in anyway related to Marvel. Also, they should really call the movie Iron Monkey instead.

Keep going for the movie trailer (but only if you really want to).
