Many from Gen Z and Gen Alpha probably wouldn’t know a VHS tape if it hit them in the face. So, I’m guessing this news isn’t for them. But for everyone else who grew up on 80s sci-fi, you might want to sit down for this: Escape From New York is back.

There’s no way anyone who grew up in the 80s doesn’t know this John Carpenter classic. The dystopian-themed sci-fi flick became a cult favorite, and now, thanks to Vice Press, Matt Ferguson, Florey, and Phantom City Creative, Escape From New York is making its grand return in the most retro way possible: on VHS (yes, really!) and, of course, posters.
First up, the VHS release. You’ve got two versions to choose from: the Limited Slipcase Edition and the Collector’s Edition. The Slipcase Edition is limited to just 1,000 copies and features artwork by Phantom City Creative with a red screen-printed design on a black tape. That slice of nostalgia is priced at £29.99 (approximately US$37).
Meanwhile, the Collector’s Edition comes with a double-sided cover designed by Matt Ferguson, with original key art on the flip side. That beauty also goes for £29.99 (approximately US$37). Both are in PAL format, so you might need a time machine—or just a multi-region VCR.
If that’s not enough to get your inner 80s kid jumping, Vice Press is also dropping some seriously cool posters. You can snag the 24×36 inch (61×91 cm) Phantom City Creative print, hand-numbered and limited to 250 pieces, for US$55. The variant version will set you back US$60. If you want to go bigger, there’s the 27×40 inch (68×102 cm) original theatrical one-sheet restored by Matt Ferguson, also hand-numbered, for US$70.
Everything drops on May 15 at 6 pm GMT at Vice-Press.com. Dust off your VCR and clear some wall space—it’s time to relive 1981’s version of the future, one rewind at a time.
