Xiaomi has taken the wrap of the follow up to its first gaming smartphone of its sub brand, Black Shark. Simply called Black Shark 2, this new device continues the X design language of its predecessor, but now boasts a metal body with “shaped folding glass” and a touch of light. And it has a new color too, ice glacier silver – in addition to the darkness black.
With Black Shark 2, Xiaomi brings to the table several improvement, most notable the pressure sensitive 6.39-inch AMOLED display that, depending the pressure induced on the display by user, will result in different on-screen actions. Black Shark 2 also does away with the now seemingly ancient physical fingerprint scanner, opting to go with Samsung-made under display fingerprint scanner.
Sandwiched between the funky metal body and the AMOLED display is the latest flagship SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855 paired with Adreno 640 GPU. Black Shark said the 640 GPU yield 20 percent performance increase over the 630.
Still on the display technology, Black Shark 2 also boasts several display tech, including HDR, independent image processing chip, Trueview Display that adjusts the display parameters based on the content to achieve optimal display effect, and a thing called “intelligent motion compensation technology” that offers crispier and smooth fast moving images.
Additionally, the device also boasts a dual speaker, front-facing speaker setup for spatial audio and a three-mic setup. On the imaging department, a dual camera setup comprising of a 48 MP AI camera and a 12 MP camera can be found on the rear while the front gets a 20 MP item. Battery remain unchanged with the first Black Shark device, coming in at 4,000 mAh, but this time, Xiaomi has bumped up the fast charge from 18W to 27W (QC4.0).
A couple of other features that are carried over and improved on, include x-2 smart antenna for reliable connectivity regardless of orientations and liquid-cooling technology 3.0. Black Shark 2 Gaming Smartphone is offered in four configurations: 6 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM, 8 GB RAM + 129 GB ROM, 8 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM. RAM are of LPDDR4x while internal memory comes in the form of UFS2.1.
Black Shark 2 Gaming Smartphone has a starting price of 3,199 yuan (about US$477) with pre-order already happening in China.
