It looks like Google autonomous concept car has some serious competitions, well, at least on the look department. Now, we do not profess ourselves as experts in self-driving cars, but we do know a beauty when a concept projects the image that matches the image of the future, stuck at the back of our mind since Minority Report and today, that car would be the Chevrolet-FNR Autonomous Electric Concept Car which was unveiled recently at the Shanghai GM Gala Night. Ok, to be fair. Mercedes-Benz F 015 was on the top of our chart for being very future forward-looking, but the FNR here, man, it is exactly what we have imagined the cars of future to be. Throw in an autonomous package, it would be the car of the future. How can it not be (the car of the future)?
Just look at what it has to offer: an uber futuristic capsule design, the crystal laser headlights and taillights, ‘dragonfly’ dual swing doors, magnetic hub-less wheel electric motors and a wireless auto-charge system. In addition to those, it also touts a host of “intelligent technologies” that pretty much qualifies it as a car of science-fiction and it includes stuff like sensors and roof-mounted radar for mapping out the environment to enable driverless operation, Chevy’s Intelligent Assistant and eye-recognition start so that only the rightful owner can enjoy the future ride, or something like that. What’s more, the vehicle’s front seats can be swivel 180 degrees so that occupants can communicate with each other when the vehicle is in self-driving mode, though hopefully not looking down at their smart gadgets or whatever entertainment system it has in there.
Like any well thought out concept, manual control is possible, which the driver can initiate via gesture control feature. Welcome to the future, again. Tell me you are not a wee bit impressed.
