You may remember Bel&Bel for its Vespa balancing scooter and Vespa chairs. What you may not know is the creative studio’s founders, Carles Bel and Jesús Bel also have a passion for turning anime two or less wheel vehicles into reality.
The duo has previously brought Akira Toriyama’s Bulma’s Capsule No. 9 motorcycle and Lunch’s monowheel to life, and the latest creation is something of a sci-fi household name: the iconic Kaneda’s bike from cult sci-fi anime, Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira.
Bel&Bel embarked on a journey to recreate one of the most famous fictional motorcycles – if not the most famous – in 2023. The first version was a hybrid bike powered by a 250cc Yamaha internal combustion engine and an electric motor.
The second version, however, of real-life Kaneda’s bike is fully electric befitting its sci-fi status. Bel&Bel is building two Kaneda bikes to order. Now for the good news. There is a plan to produce a limited series and make them available for people to buy this year (2024).
But it is not going to be cheap, obviously. Each bike will reportedly cost €20,000, or about US$21,704 based on the current going rate.
