Remember the Godzilla and Evangelion mashup that resulted in an unholy Unit Beast “G” mode statue? Well, it has returned but in an adorable version. OK. Maybe even as a chibi-style (Q or Cute-style) non-articulated figure, the DefoReal Evangelion Unit 01 “G” Awakening Mode Figure is far from cute. It is as unholy as the original statue we saw in 2016.
If don’t already know the backstory, Evangelion Unit 01 “G” Awakening Mode explores the question of what if Godzilla cells were introduced into Evangelion Unit 01? The result is an EVA Unit-01 fused with the radioactive kaiju that is unholy and strangely awesome at the same time.
It has the form of the Evangelion in a forward-leaning silhouette of the Gozilla. Gojira can be seen “breaking out” of the armor of the Unit-01 from one side of the head and extending to the back where it continues with the tail. The fins, in luminous green, can be seen extending from mid-back to the tail.
While the DefoReal Evangelion Unit 01 “G” Awakening Mode figure may not be as “unholy” as the original, the chibi-style version is not less menacing. It still looks like the Evangelion Unit 01 going berserk.
Size-wise, the DefoReal Evangelion Unit 01 “G” Awakening Mode Figure stands 17 cm (6.7″) tall and is about 21 cm (8.3″) long.
It may be a fixed pose figure but it does have a couple of gimmicks. Firstly, the green parts of the figure are treated with fluorescent paint which will glow when blacklight aka UV-A light is cast on it in the dark. Then there is the light-up feature on the eyes and the chest core.
A power supply unit that uses two AA cells (not included) is used to power the light-up gimmick. There is a catch. I think the light-up feature is only available in the limited edition figure. I could be wrong.
As before, the figure is made from PVC material.
Pre-orders for the 15,400 yen (tax included; about US$111) collectible figure was supposed to end on August 07, 2023, 23:00 hours Japan time, with delivery in October 2023, but last check, Shonen Ric has closed the book. However, Big Bad Toy Store (US$139.99) is still taking pre-orders.
