Ever noticed there’s a company called HD Hyundai? If you don’t, after this article, you will because it has got some super cool stuff that it brought to this year’s CES. Before getting into HD Hyundai’s awesome tech, you may want to know that it is not affiliated to Hyundai Group nor is it related to the famous automaker. Well, it once was part of the Hyundai Group which includes the automobile brand, Hyundai but there was a restructuring 20+ years ago which saw several companies in the group go independent.
Today, HD Hyundai is a conglomerate that engages in shipbuilding, heavy equipment, machinery, and the petroleum industry. Back to the CES that concluded yesterday… HD Hyundai had quite a presence with a massive booth of 10,994-square-foot in the West Hall of LVCC. It was almost twice the size of the booth at CES 2023. This year’s theme was Xite Innovation Beyond Time and Space.
“Xite” is a play on the word “site” while beyond time and space is essentially HD Hyundai’s vision of the future of worksites in construction and mining. The Xite Innovation Beyond Time and Space booth is further divided into three themes: Future Xite, Twin Xite, and Zero Xite.
Future Xite tackles the issues in the construction industry such as the lack of skilled workforce, low productivity, and dangerous working environments, through the use of a 15-foot-tall cabless excavator as well as future autonomous construction site features like drone-based site analysis.
Not going to lie. The futuristic cabless excavator was the machinery that drew me to HD Hyundai this year. Man, this excavator looks like something straight out of a sci-fi flick! There was a cabless bulldozer too and it also looked like it was from the future. But HD Hyundai isn’t the first to propose a cables excavator. I believe Doosan Infracore was the first we have seen.
Anyways, moving on to Twin Xite, it showcased innovative construction solutions using digital twin technology that allows remote control and site simulations beyond the constraints of time and space. At the booth, visitors experienced Smart Site Management through a digital platform to identify and address issues on land and sea. Additionally, they can remotely control equipment using a simulator in the Twin Xite zone, and VR Twin will display HD Hyundai’s vision of future work sites.
Finally, there was Zero Xite showcased HD Hyundai’s efforts to realize an era of zero-carbon emissions.
