When I tell you that this is a dog feeder, you probably think it is an automatic dog feeder. Your line of thought isn’t wrong at all. After all, if it is a dog feeder, it would be for convenience and hence, automation. However, the Houndsy Kibble Dispenser isn’t an automatic feeder. In fact, it couldn’t be more analog.
And in spite of Houndsy Kibble Dispenser‘s analog nature, it does bring about some conveniences but not in the way you may have imagined. Conveniences like dispensing an exact portion of kibbles at a flick of a lever, for example.
When I first lay my eyes on Houndsy, I was completely sold. The aesthetic itself would have sold itself even if Houndsy said it is just a kibble container. Like, seriously, just look at the thing. Obviously, it is more than just a beautiful pet care product.
The container, which can hold up to 30 lbs (13.6 kilograms) of kibbles, features a BPA-free plastic storage liner and gaskets up top and bottom of the storage compartment to keep the food airtight and away from pests and moisture.
The outer section is made of European beechwood finished with a rich, walnut stain and it boasts a miter-folded construction to achieve a seamless look. A clear section around the front lets you in on the level of kibbles left within in a very classy manner.
The box sits on lathe-machined legs in a choice of two heights: 3.5 inches (89 mm) and 8 inches (203 mm). The minimalist look is matched by a simplistic operation.
All you have to do is place the stainless steel bowl, which is included with each Houndsy Kibble Dispenser, inside the “drawer”, fill the bin with dry kibble, and you are pretty much all set.
After that, it is a matter of cranking the hand-welded lever up top, and the clever engineering inside the dispenser will dispense the perfect portion of food for fido. Absolutely no batteries required.
It is simple, no-frill, and looks absolutely stunning. Perfect for dog owners who actually care about the look of his or her home.
If you are sold by the idea (like, who doesn’t???), you may pick up the Houndsy Kibble Dispenser by making a pledge for a product for US$299 or more. It is not cheap. But trust me, it is cheaper than its eventual retail price (US$399). However, if you want one, you will need to act on it quickly cos’ the campaign is ending in 60+ hours’ time.
