Here’s a piece of news both petrol heads and guitar heads will want to hear about. John Oates, one half of Hall & Oates who have recently received a custom 1960 356 from Emory Motorsports, is setting up a “Cars of the Rock Stars” exhibit at the 2019 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. The exhibition, which will be held between March 9 and 10 at the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton Hotel, will feature Oates’s custom 1960 Emory Outlaw Porsche 356 Cabriolet alongside 200+ pre-1974 cars including famous cars owned by notable musicians with some of the guitars they played.

Some of the cars include Janis Joplin’s Porsche 356 Cabriolet, Billy Gibbon’s (ZZ Top) Cadzilla Cadillac, Brian Johnson’s (AC/DC) Bentley, and Elvis Presley’s Corvette. That’s for the automobile part. Now, on with the electric six-string instruments… In addition to several guitars from John Oates’ personal collection that will be on display, there is this incredibly gorgeous electric guitar you see here. This particular electric guitar belongs to Oates, jointly custom by Rod Emory (of Emory Motorsports), David Monning of Coast Airbrush and renowned artist Ryan “Ryno” Templeton.

Monning and Templeton applied the image of Oates’ 1960 Porsche 356 Emory Special – complete with SoCal Canyonlands as the backdrop – on the Stratocaster with Rust-Oleum’s new electroluminescent LumiLor product which is a light-emitting coating developed with Darkside Scientific. And yes, this paint work on the guitar actually lights up! When a switch is flipped, the paint comes to life with light on the guitar body and boy, it was a sight to behold.

Which means, one determined folks will have the chance of bringing home this one-off custom Fender home. Unfortunately, actual Porsche 356 is not included in the deal.
