Well, we certainly never see this coming. What you see here is the latest addition to the LEGO Batman Collection, the LEGO Batman Returns Batcave Shadow Box. Wait. Batman what? Batman Returns. I know right. I bet many have forgotten that Tim Burton did direct the sequel to the 1989’s blockbuster. The sequel was a box office success but just not as good as the first.
Anyways, LEGO has collaborated with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products and DC to create the LEGO Batman Returns Batcave Shadow Box (76252), a highly detailed interior of the Batcave inside a display box with a cutout in the shape of the iconic Batman emblem.
Bruce Wayne has turned a natural bat cave into a gadget wonderland and it is no different with this brick-built replica. The set features clever functions and gadgets including the ability to move furniture, change images on the big screens, open a vault, and a light brick that illuminates the Batsuit vault.
The real star of the show and the undisputed centerpiece of the display has to be the Batmobile. The roof of the Batmobile can be opened for the Batman minifigure with the fabric cape to enter. Turning the cog on the Batmobile will reveal two hidden shooters. Completing the Batmobile is a flame element for the exhaust to replicate the afterburner.
The cave is presented as a cutaway, or cross-section design. It can be displayed closed with the interior visible through the Batman logo opening. But it can also open up to display in all its 3D glory with the Batmobile right smack in the center on a purpose-built platform, just as it was seen in the movie.
When completed, the 3,981-piece set measures over 11 in. (29 cm) high, 20 in. (51 cm) wide, and 5.5 in. (14 cm) deep. Another highlight of the set ought to be the minifigures, which include two brand new minifigures of The Penguin, and Catwoman, in addition to minifigures of Max Shreck, 2 versions of Batman, Alfred Pennyworth, and Bruce Wayne.
The LEGO Batman Returns Batcave Shadow Box (76252) will be available on June 08, 2023, for a cool US$399.99. LEGO VIP members a few days earlier on June 05, 2023.
Recommended for ages 18 and up.
