Never mind that the proposed LEGO Goonies 30th-anniversary set did not make it as an official LEGO set, because another proposed Goonies set on LEGO Ideas has. Folks, meet the LEGO Ideas The Goonies (21363).
Joining the growing fleet of brick-built pirate vessels like Captain Jack Sparrow’s and the Going Merry is a pirate ship like no other: the legendary shipwreck of One-Eyed Willy’s from the movie The Goonies. Based on the set created by Greece-based 3D artist and fan designer Vaggelis Ntezes, a.k.a. Delusion Brick, on LEGO Ideas, the LEGO Ideas The Goonies (21363) uses 2,912 pieces to recreate the infamous pirate ship ruins from the 80s cult classic film.
The 21363 may be a set made for adult fans of LEGO, but the playability is high on this one. One side of the model lets you admire the detailed recreation of the exterior of the Inferno pirate ship ruins, and on the other, it is a proper diorama featuring brick-built vignettes of iconic scenes ranging from the Fratellis’ hideout and caves to Willy’s treasure room.
Man, this set has to be in the middle of a room so you can admire it from every angle—or at least, it should be on a turntable to allow it to be viewed from any angle.
All told, the set includes 12 LEGO minifigures featuring key characters from the film, including Mike “Mikey” Walsh, Richard “Data” Wang, Clark “Mouth” Devereaux, Lawrence “Chunk” Cohen, Mama Fratelli, Andrea “Andy” Carmichael, and Willy.
You can send a minifigure through the secret fireplace entrance to the caves, activate the boulder-dropping trap, use the Copper Bones Skeleton Key to release the trapdoor, send Sloth sliding down the mast on the Inferno deck, push the keys on the skeleton organ to break the floor, and access the slide to the octopus. The latter is pulled from a deleted scene, by the way.
Anyhoo, in short, it is a ton of fun that lets you relive the screaming adventure of The Goonies like you did when you watched it as a kid. When completed, the model measures a shelf-space-demanding 36 cm (14 in.) high, 62 cm (24.5 in.) wide, and 18 cm (7 in.) deep.
