The LEGO Mario universe has just been further expanded. Joining the original LEGO Super Mario and Luigi starter sets, the Peach starter course and castle expansion set are yet another expansion set featuring none other than the supervillain himself, the Bowser, well, the skeletal version one aka the Dry Bowser. Accompanying flesh-off Bowser is his booty-trap-filled Dry Bowser Castle.
The LEGO Super Mario Dry Bowser Castle Battle Expansion Set (71423), as it is called, uses 1,321 LEGO elements to recreate the Dry Bowser Castle (or at least part of it). The expansion set allows fans to use interactive LEGO Mario, LEGO Luigi, or LEGO Peach to rescue Purple Toad from within the deep, dark depths of the castle.
“Set in an iconic Super Mario location, fans are tasked to find the secret entrance (just watch out for the Magmaargh!), defeat the Bone Piranha Plant and Bone Goomba, use the crane to rescue the Purple Toad, then quickly grab the key. What lays behind the door is secret – you’ll have to wait and see what’s revealed!”Didier Agni, Senior Interactive Play Designer at LEGO
When completed, the set features an opening Bowser-jaw-shaped entrance, a crane to rescue the Purple Toad from the trap and topple the brick-built Dry Bowser, flippers to defeat the Bone Piranha Plant and Bone Groomba, a Magmaargh attack function, a gym, secret entrance, a secret strategy room, a Key Block, and a Treasure Chest Block.
This is a modular set that combines with other LEGO Super Mario playsets which should make for a majestic display piece together even if you don’t play with it. The set measures over 10.5 in. (27 cm) high, 18 inc. (46 cm) wide, and 12.5 inc. (31 cm) deep in its basic formation.
The set was officially revealed on Mario Day, March 10, 2023, via a YouTube premiere. The LEGO Super Mario Dry Bowser Castle Battle Expansion Set (71423) is set to arrive on August 01, 2023, with a US$109.99 sticker. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
