Legoland Windsor’s 500,000-brick LEGO Death Star

What you see here is a massive LEGO Death Star and when we said this thing is massive, we do mean 500,000 LEGO bricks kind of massive. If that number doesn’t astound you, how about the fact that this custom job, which was made for Legoland Windsor UK, measures 2.5 meters (8 feet 2.43 inches) across and is 3 meters (9 feet 10.11 inches) high, and it weighs a deadly 860 kilograms (1,900 lbs)! As you would have imagined, the becoming of this thing wasn’t a walk in the park. It took 15 LEGO modellers three months to built, and an entire day to it get installed on site, plus another six weeks to complete the battle scene between X-Wing fighters and TIE fighters.

This one-off display piece features a light-up superlaser, along with sound effects for added authenticity. Authenticity it indeed has, though the superlaser won’t be able to vaporize any planet. This 500,000-brick LEGO Death Star is part of Legoland Windsor’s Star Wars Miniland Model Display, which is slated to open its door to visitors on March 11, 2016. Take a look at the intro video below (note the massive internal structure of this LEGO Death Star at 0:48).
